Haus Seilern, Kitzbühel

Paps and Boy returned to Lausanne from the UK after WW II (1947?) as did Mami, Nettie, Henriette and I from Buenos Aires.  The reason for coming to Switzerland in the first place was that Wasserburg was in the Russian zone where (as British subjects?) we were not allowed to live.

We first stayed in the Hotel Royal in Lausanne after which Paps rented the Château de Villard in La Tour de Peilz (Vevey).

It was around this time that Paps asked Ernst Demar to build a house in Kitzbühel.  Actually two houses, one for the employees, garage and heating, the other for us.

Demar knew exactly what was required and the result was outstanding.

It was big and built not only for the family but also for large-scale entertaining.

After the Staatsvertrag was signed, Paps decided to sell Haus Seilern and return to Wasserburg.

A shame because everybody loved Kitzbühel.

The land on which Haus Seilern was built was around one hectare (10'000 m2) and only a few minutes from the centre of Kitzbühel.  The perfect location.

Once again, a property was practically given away.  I believe the sum was OSch 11 million or €800'000.  Today it must be worth around €25 million.

C'est la vie.
